HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – One person was detained Saturday afternoon following a fire inside of a Walmart in Hollywood that police say may have been arson.
According to Hollywood police spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi, firefighters extinguished the fire around 4:50 p.m. at Walmart, located at 301 State Road 7.
Authorities said upon police arrival, they located a small fire inside the store and had it evacuated as a precaution for employees and shoppers.
Bettineschi said one person was detained following the incident, but the suspect has not yet been identified by police.
Local 10 News also obtained cellphone video from a viewer that showed firefighters extinguishing the fire in the store.
A Local 10 News crew was at the scene where police were speaking to the suspect next to a patrol car after placing him in handcuffs.
Authorities said the store was closed and a Florida State Fire Marshal also responded to investigate the cause of the fire.
