Nushrratt Bharuccha, who was stranded in Israel, amid the conflict situation in the country is finally getting back home. The Bollywood actor was in Israel to attend the Haifa International Film Festival when Hamas attacked the southern part of the country. Her team informed indianexpress.com that with the help of the Indian embassy, the actor is now on her way back to India.
“We have finally managed to get in touch with Nushrratt and with the help of the Embassy, she is being safely brought back home. We did not get a direct flight so she is on a connecting flight home,” her publicist said in a statement. They did not give out many details for safety reasons and shared that as soon as she landed in India, they would speak about it. “We are relieved and thank god that she is safe and on her way to India,” the statement further read.
It’s ironic that the actor’s last film Akelli had her playing a young woman trapped in a combat zone, who had to battle for her life to reach home safely. Reportedly, Nushrratt was at the film festival to talk about the same film.
Earlier, her team had shared that the actor was in a basement for safety reasons after the situation turned hostile in Haifa. The team could not connect on Saturday, leaving them and her family extremely worried. Her publicist had earlier released a statement saying that they were trying to get Nushrratt home ‘in the best of health and unharmed’.
Gunmen from Hamas carried out a deadly rampage in Israeli towns on Saturday, killing at least 250 Israelis, and abducting several others. This marked the deadliest day of violence in Israel since the Yom Kippur war half a century ago. In response, Israel launched devastating retaliatory strikes, resulting in over 230 casualties in Gaza. “We will take mighty vengeance for this wicked day,” PM Benjamin Netanyahu said.
After the attack, the Indian embassy in Tel Aviv issued an advisory for all nationals, asking them to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary movements. “In view of the current situation in Israel, all Indian nationals in Israel are requested to remain vigilant, and observe safety protocols as advised by local authorities. Please exercise caution, avoid unnecessary movement and stay close to safety shelters,” the embassy said in a statement.
