Animal is now a monster. Filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s latest action-drama Animal, headlined by Ranbir Kapoor, is heading for a historic weekend at the Indian box office with a very strong Sunday.
After netting Rs 129.80 crore in two days (opening was 63.8 Cr, followed by Rs 66 cr Saturday) from all its versions, Animal is expected to clock more than Rs 70 cr on Sunday as per early trade estimates.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, till 5 PM, Animal had netted more than Rs 50 cr on its day three. The figures are inclusive of the next two hours of advance data. With a solid trending, Animal will now aim to cross Rs 70 cr all India nett.
If it achieves the numbers, Animal will become the only Hindi film after Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathan and Jawan to clock figures in the range of Rs 70 cr. Animal now also has a shot to create history with its weekend numbers.
Shah Rukh’s Pathaan, which was a Wednesday release, had clocked Rs 166.75 in three days till Friday. The superstar’s other release, Jawan, which was a Thursday release, had netted Rs 206 cr in its first three days.
Animal will now comfortably cross the three-day collections of Pathaan and chase the record set by Jawan, for which it will need to clock more than Rs 76 cr on Sunday. Either way, Animal will lodge itself in top 2 of highest weekend collection of all time.
Though Animal is setting box office records, the film has also come under intense scrutiny for its misogyny, violence, vulgarity, which a section of the audience has called out.
