BELLEVILLE — All Mifflin County schools along with multiple facilities and businesses in the Belleville area were placed on lockdown Thursday morning as a result of a police incident.
According to Mifflin County Regional Police, the incident was reported at 10:24 a.m. Thursday. Regional officers were dispatched to Kish Creek Lane in Belleville after reports of a man armed with a rifle at an Amish schoolhouse. The school was occupied by students at the time of the incident.
At the time of the police response, the suspect’s location was not known and multiple law enforcement agencies and personnel responded to assist in locating him and taking him into custody.
A Skylert message from the Mifflin County School District informed parents and guardians that all all MCSD Schools and the Academy were in “Shelter in Place,” meaning no students were outside of the buildings and all indoor activities were proceeding as normal. Several businesses in the Belleville area were placed on lockdown as well during the incident.
The suspect, later identified by Mifflin County Regional Police Chief Andre French as Samuel Rufus Yoder, 46, of Belleville, was located and taken into custody without incident. Police say no shots were fired, there were no threats to the school or the children and there were no injuries reported. All schools, businesses and facilities were returned to normal routine shortly before noon.
