Asian Games 2023 Highlights: The last day of the Asian Games was all about showering gold medals in different events for India. The team concluded by living up to the commitment of “Iss baar 100 paar” by creating their best-ever performance of 107 medal.
On the last day of the Asian Games, Indian players won a total of 12 medals, with half of them being gold in sports events like kabaddi, badminton, hockey and archery. The final tally of 107 medals included 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze medals. This outstanding feat surpassed India’s previous best of 70 medals in the Jakarta Asian Games
The day began with Jyothi Surekha clinching GOLD in women’s compound archery. Jyothi Surekha Vennam of India secures a gold medal in Women’s Compound Archery, triumphing over South Korea’s Chaewon So with a score of 145-149.
Indian archer Ojas Deotale won gold as Abhishek Verma settled for silver medal in men’s compound individual event at Asian Games.
In a historic achievement, India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty secured the gold medal in men’s badminton doubles by defeating South Korea’s Solgyu Choi and Wonho Kim in two straight games (21-18, 21-16).
The fiery performance of team India in Asian Games was studded with several milestones achieved in different sports events. First medal in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Team Event, the first Gold in the Men’s Air Rifle Team Event, India’s victory in the Squash Final, the double medal for the Javelin Throw, gold in equestrian, and Parul Choudhary’s incredible come-from-behind victory in the Women’s 5000m, Aditi Ashok’s historic medal in golf, are a few of the major milestones achieved.
India’s athletes and shooters were the show stoppers of Asian Games. Athletic brought India the most 29 medals. On the other hand, Indian shooters brought a total of 22 medals for the nation.
In Javelin, it was not just India’s ‘Golden Boy’ Neeraj Chopra, but also Kishore Kumar Jena who dominated in the competition. The duo scripted historic javelin 1-2 podium position. Indian athletes Parul Chaudhary and Avinash Sable’s double podium, while Tajinderpal Singh Toor defended his shot put title, 4x400m relay teams’ success and Tejaswin Shankar’s national record-breaking decathlon silver, were the spotlight moments in track and field.

Vice President of Archery Association of India Kailash (AAI) Kailash Murarka on Saturday praised the outstanding performance of Indian archers at the Asian Games, saying that the archers would repeat the performance in the Olympics as well.
India has won nine medals including five gold medals in archery events, achieving their best medal tally in the Asian Games history.
“This is a matter of happiness… Indian archers have created history…These performances will improve further… I would like to congratulate all the Indians, archers, their families, and the sports department… I have the belief that our archers will perform in the same manner in the Olympics,” Kailash Murarka told ANI.

After winning the gold medal in compound archery men’s individual event at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou on Saturday, the Indian archer Ojas Pravin Deotale said that he came to the ongoing multi-sport event with a motive to win gold for India.
While speaking to ANI, the gold medalist in the compound archery men’s individual event also thanked the Indian government, his coaches, his parents, and all the supporting staff for helping him seal the gold medal for India.
“I had come with the motive to win one gold medal for India, but after winning three gold medals, it feels as if I am in a dream… I would like to congratulate other Indian athletes as well for reaching 100 medals at the Asian Games. It is a big number for India… It feels proud that India is growing… I want to thank the Indian government, coaches, my parents, and all the supporting staff who are behind this gold medal,” Ojas Pravin Deotale told ANI.
Deepak Punia has just scored two points, giving him a 4-3 lead against Javrail Shapiev. He has successfully secured the victory and a place in the final, guaranteeing himself a medal.
Indian women’s volleyball team notched up a thrilling 3-2 win over Hong Kong in a classification match to finish at the ninth spot at the Asian Games here on Saturday.
Nirmal and Surya led the way with 19 and 16 points respectively as India registered a 25-18 18-25 20-25 25-19 15-9 win over Hong Kong in the 9th-10th classification match that lasted just under two hours at Hangzhou Normal University Cangqian Gymnasium.
For Hong Kong, Wing Lam Chim was the top performer with 27 points.
The Indians had finished tenth in the previous edition in Jakarta 2018, while their best performance came in Delhi 1982, where they had finished sixth. (PTI)
