ATMs have been down at Centier Bank, First Financial Bank and other banks in the Midwest.
“As a result of a multi-state ATM outage, ATM services at many banks, including Centier, are currently unavailable. We are working diligently with our third-party partners to restore services as soon as possible,” a Centier spokesperson said. “Until that time, debit card transactions are not impacted, and clients can access your cash, surcharge-free, in the AllPoint ATM network located in CVS, Speedway, and other retailers.”
Centier customers also can go to brick-and-mortar Center branches around Indiana to do their banking.
“Deposits can be made at the branch, mobile banking, or at the branch night drop,” said a spokesperson of Merrillville-based Centier, the largest bank in Northwest Indiana by market share.
The technical problem was caused by an external vendor, affecting banks in Indiana and Ohio.
The outage also affected ATMs at First Financial Bank, a Cincinnati-based bank with a large footprint in Northwest Indiana.
“Our team is working to restore services as soon as possible,” First Financial Bank spokesman Tim Condron said. “During this time we will automatically refund any fees you may incur using another ATM.”
Some other affected banks include Civista Bank, Lake City Bank, Centra Credit Union and First Farmers Bank & Trust.
Indiana-based First Farmers said the regional outage affected many financial institutions and that the ATM vendor was working to resolve the problem.
