Ahead of the famous Dasara Jambu Savari, scion of erstwhile Mysuru royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar conducted the Ayudha Puja for his private weapons on Monday at Kalyana Mantapa in the palace.
Earlier in the morning, the weapons were cleaned near Sri Kodi Someshwara Temple and then brought to the Kalyana Mantapa. Yaduveer performed the traditional puja rituals during the auspicious lagna from 12.20 pm to 12.45 pm.
Palace cows, horses, and elephants, along with the private luxury cars used by royal family, were also part of the puja. In the evening, after the private durbar, Yaduveer visited Vanivilasa Deva’s temple . After that, he performed Amba Vilasa Datta Puja and got the darshan of Amala Devi. With this, the Navami puja programme came to an end.
Thousands of people thronged Mysuru to watch the spectacular air show at Bannimantapa as part of the Dussehra celebrations. As a result, vehicular traffic congestion was witnessed for about 5 km around the Bannimantapa grounds. Vehicles were lined up on the roads at LIC Circle and Highway Circle, connecting to the grounds.
At the air show, organised after four years as a part of Mysore Dasara, the performance of the Suryakiran planes thrilled the audience. The display of the nine Suryakiran aircraft, which arrived from Salur Airfield in Coimbatore, left the spectators in awe. The aircraft executed a variety of maneuvres, including a diamond formation, V formation, and a 360-degree aerial acrobatics display with all nine aircraft spiralling in the air.
Chief minister Siddaramaiah extended congratulations to the team that participated in the air show, presenting them with mementos. Siddaramaiah who arrived in the cultural city on Monday as part of his three-day tour visited Maharani College in the city and the hostel to inspect the repair work of the building.
He said government sanctioned ₹150 crores to carry out the construction of new college and hostel building. “A hostel consisting of four buildings with a capacity for 2,000 students is being built. Each building will accommodate 500 female students,” he said.
The chief minister said that a portion of the Maharani Science College had collapsed, but the historical front part of the building will be preserved, and the rest of the building will be reconstructed.
