Actor Pooja Ruparel, best known for playing Kajol’s sister Chutki in the romantic blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, says Shah Rukh Khan has always been “generous and graceful”, not letting his stardom affect him.
In DDLJ, Pooja played Rajeshwari “Chutki” Singh. It was her second film with Shah Rukh after the 1993 comedy drama King Uncle. In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, the actor opened up about working with SRK at a young age.
“By DDLJ, Shah Rukh Khan was a huge star. He is such a warm, intelligent man. Unka dil kuch aur he hai. He hasn’t change from within. Stardom hasn’t made him hollow. He would behave the same way and is a very generous co-actor. He would help during scenes, give tips like a senior, helpful person. He is very gracious, very graceful.”
Pooja Ruparel also recalled how she bagged a role in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and said she doesn’t think “Shah Rukh had anything to do” with it. The actor said the office of filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, who had directed her in King Uncle, received a call from Yash Chopra’s office enquiring about her.
“Those days there wasn’t a system of being managed by people. If someone liked your work, they would find out your number and reach out to you. Then I got a call from them. They got a photoshoot done with me and Kajol, to check if we look like sisters. It was a fun photoshoot and our chemistry was good,” she said.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was written and directed by Aditya Chopra. The film recently completed 28 years. DDLJ is considered an iconic Hindi romantic movie, which skyrocketed the careers of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. On the work front, Shah Rukh will be next seen in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. This will be his third release of the year after Pathaan and Jawan.
