A development opportunity on a historic site adjoining the Gloucestershire estate of Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal has been brought to market.
Bids are being invited for the opportunity to refurbish and redevelop The Old Quarries, a grade II-listed former residence in the Cotswold village of Avening, with 7.3 acres of grounds neighbouring Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park country estate.

Detailed planning consent is in place for the refurbishment and conversion of several existing buildings on the site, and for the construction of six new dwellings.
The house was originally constructed in the 19th Century and later owned by Viscount Lee of Fareham who extended it, constructing a gallery to house his collection of artwork in 1938. During World War II, it housed artworks from the National Gallery and more recently it was used as a residential special education needs school.
National property consultancy Carter Jonas, which has launched the sale, said the planning consent allows for change of use of existing buildings to form 11 homes, through a combination of renovation, demolition and rebuilding.
Steve Morris, planning and development partner at Carter Jonas, said: “We are very pleased to have a role in the future of what is undoubtedly an exciting and unusual development opportunity. We anticipate significant interest and have high aspirations for a sensitive redevelopment of this special building and its beautiful surroundings.”
