In our top story. Akshay Kumar’s latest advertisement with Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn for pan masala brand Vimal has once again sparked controversy. For the unversed, Akshay stepped down as the brand ambassador of Vimal last year due to criticism from his fans. However, with the recent ad, fans are now accusing him of hypocrisy. Akshay came forward to clarify the situation. Taking to his X handle on October 9th, Akshay hit back and said in the statement – “These ads were shot in 2021. I have not had anything to do with the brand ever since I publicly announced the discontinuation of the endorsement. They can legally run the already-shot ads till the end of next month.”
Meanwhile, in a recent media interaction, Akshay Kumar shed light on his decision not to extensively promote his latest release, Mission Raniganj. Akshay shared his perspective on film promotion and said – “I promoted Selfie a lot, but it didn’t work. I didn’t go anywhere to promote OMG 2. It got word-of-mouth promotion. If I promote the film, people will take it for granted. But if somebody else appreciates it and tells them to watch it, they will go and watch the film.” Mission Raniganj, co-starring Parineeti Chopra, is based on a real incident in a West Bengal coal mine where 65 workers were rescued following a flood. The film is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai.
The trailer of Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Ganpath, was unveiled on October 9th, Monday. The Vikas Bahl directorial promises a roller-coaster ride of emotions, action and adventure. The trailer shows Tiger’s transformation from Guddu to Ganpath, all in the name of improving society and bridging the gap between the rich and the poor. This film holds the promise of delivering a blend of Indian and futuristic sci-fi elements, complete with some eye-catching visual effects. Tiger showcases his impressive boxing skills, while Kriti takes on a few bad guys. Amitabh’s appearance is intriguing, with his powerful dialogue delivery guaranteed to grab attention. Ganpath is all set to hit theatres on October 20.
Moving on. Taapsee Pannu presented a fresh narrative of female friendship and adventure with the release of the trailer for Dhak Dhak on October 9th, produced by her Outsiders Films in collaboration with Viacom18 Studios. The film features an ensemble cast including Ratna Pathak Shah, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Dia Mirza, and Sanjana Sanghi. The trailer showcases these women embarking on an extraordinary journey as they transform into bikers on a life-changing adventure to Leh’s Khardung La, the world’s highest motorable pass. Dhak Dhak is directed by Tarun Dudeja. Speaking about the film, Taapsee earlier said, “We have attempted to give audiences a visual experience that they’ve rarely seen on screen.” Dhak Dhak is set to hit theatres on October 13.
Bhumi Pednekar-starrer Thank You for Coming released in cinemas on October 6. Although the Karan Boolani directorial, also starring Shehnaaz Gill, Kusha Kapila, Dolly Singh and Shibani Bedi, received positive reviews, it has yet to find many takers at the box office. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to post – “Thank You For Coming finds flavour at premium multiplexes, although the overall total is on the lower side.” Bhumi Pednekar was, however, lauded for her brilliant performance in the film, which focuses on the taboo subject of female pleasure. Bhumi shared in a statement – “I’m proud that TYFC has started an important conversation about female pleasure, which somehow seems to be an extremely taboo topic in India.”
Meanwhile, stars Suniel Shetty and Sanjay Dutt are all set to be part of Star vs. Food Survival’s first episode. Hosted by Ranveer Brar, the show will see the two stars traversing through the untouched terrains of Coorg as they test their mental and physical resilience throughout 15 km. In a chat with indianexpress.com, Shetty called the experience a ‘superb’ one, sharing how his friend Sanjay’s presence added to the overall fun. Suniel shared, “We form a deadly combination and it was so much fun to shoot with him. He brought along his sense of humour and that lazy swag. We realised that we need to do this more often.”
Actor Ashwin Mushran, who played the flamboyant designer in Fashion, has opened up about stereotyping in the industry. Mushran mentioned that he was offered similar roles to his part in Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut-starrer Fashion, but they weren’t as powerful. In an interview with India Today NE, Mushran said – “Unfortunately, the film industry is a stereotyping industry. I said no to other roles after Fashion because the same thing was being offered.” In the film Fashion, Mushran plays the role of Rohit Khanna, an aspiring designer, who introduces Meghana, played by Priyanka, to the fashion industry. He was also a part of films like Lage Raho Munna Bhai and Life in a Metro among others.
Lastly, despite being a part of numerous significant projects spanning different film industries in the country, her latest release being Jawan, actor Priyamani has faced unwarranted criticism, particularly focused on her age and appearance. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, she pointed out and shared – ” When men get older, nobody tells them that they are 50 or 40-year-old uncles. When women hit 30 or 35, they start calling us aunties. I proudly say that I am a 39-year-old who is very comfortable in her shoes and her body.” Priyamani is currently gearing up for the release of Quotation Gang, in which she will star alongside Sunny Leone and Jackie Shroff.
