Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 24 flagged off nine Vande Bharat Express trains across 11 states via video conferencing. At present, there are 25 Vande Bharat trains operational within the Indian Railways network. With the addition of nine more high speed trains, the total count of Vande Bharat trains in operation across the country has now reached 34.
PM Modi emphasised that the newly launched Vande Bharat Express trains will play a vital role in enhancing connectivity as well as boost tourism across India. He added that the government’s emphasis is on multi-modal connectivity and ease of travel, aiming to minimise commuting time for individuals.
In his address via video conferencing ahead of the flag off, the PM said the speed and scale of infrastructure development is matching the aspirations of 140 crore Indians.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also took part in the inauguration programme for the nine Vande Bharat Express trains. “In the last 9 years, PM Modi has extraordinarily transformed the Railway system,” he said.
Two of the trains will operate on the South Central Railways (SCR), two in West Bengal, and one each in Odisha, Gujarat, Rajasthan and other regions.
With the beginning of the festival season, these new Vande Bharat Express trains are expected to provide a seamless travel experience to commuters, giving a faster and more convenient travel alternative. The Vijayawada – MGR Chennai Central route train will be the first and fastest service on this particular route.

The states that will benefit from the launch of Vande Bharat trains include Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Bihar, West Bengal, Kerala, Odisha, Jharkhand and Gujarat, according to a press release from the PM office.
The new trains that will be flagged off are:
(1) Udaipur – Jaipur Vande Bharat Express
The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express train is likely to enhance connectivity between Udaipur and Jaipur. This high-speed train will offer a travel time that is about 30 minutes quicker than the current fastest train operating on this route. Also, this marks the third Vande Bharat train in Rajasthan, with the existing two being the Jodhpur-Sabarmati and Ajmer-Delhi Cantt Vande Bharat Express services.
(2) Tirunelveli-Madurai- Chennai Vande Bharat Express
The Tirunelveli-Madurai-Chennai Vande Bharat Express is set to establish a crucial link between the religious towns of Tirunelveli and Madurai with Chennai, catering to pilgrims and travellers alike. Also, this high-speed train is expected to reduce travel time by more than two hours compared to existing services. Departing from Tirunelveli Junction, the train will make stops at Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, and Tiruchirappalli before reaching its final destination in Chennai.

(3) Hyderabad –Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express
The Vande Bharat Express connecting Kacheguda in Hyderabad and Yesvantpur in Bengaluru will halts at key stations including Mahabubnagar, Kurnool, Anantapur, and Dharamvaram. The train will have one executive class coach and seven chair car coaches, collectively accommodating a total of 530 passengers.
(4) Vijayawada – Chennai (via Renigunta) Vande Bharat Express
PM Modi will inaugurate the second Vande Bharat Express train in Chennai. This train will take the Renigunta route, establishing crucial connectivity to the Tirupati Pilgrimage centre, operating between Vijayawada and Chennai. The high-speed train will pass through key stations such as Tenali, Ongole, Nellore, and Renigunta in Andhra Pradesh.
(5) Patna – Howrah Vande Bharat Express
The new addition to the Vande Bharat fleet is set to establish a vital connection between Patna Junction in Bihar and Howrah in West Bengal. Covering a distance of 532 km in approximately 6 hours and 35 minutes, the train will make two-minute halts at key stations including Patna Saheb, Mokama, Luckeesarai Junction, Jasidih, Jamtara, Asansol, and Durgapur, enhancing connectivity and travel options for passengers in these regions.
(6) Kasaragod-Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat Express
The Kasaragod-Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat Express will be the the second Vande Bharat train in Kerala. This high-speed train is expected to significantly cut travel time by approximately three hours, covering a distance of 573 kilometers in a total of 7 hours and 55 minutes.
(7) Rourkela – Bhubaneswar – Puri Vande Bharat Express
The train originating from Puri, Odisha, is scheduled to depart at 5 am and reach Rourkela by 12:45 pm on the same day. For the return journey, the train will depart from Rourkela at 2 pm and reach Puri by 9 pm. This route will include stoppages at various stations including Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur City, and Jharsuguda.
(8) Ranchi–Howrah Vande Bharat Express
The Ranchi–Howrah Vande Bharat Express will operate six days a week, excluding Tuesday. This high-speed train is set to be the quickest means of connection between the capital cities of Jharkhand and West Bengal. The departure from Ranchi is scheduled for 5:15 am, reaching Howrah by 12:20 pm. On its return journey, the train will depart from Howrah at 3:45 pm and arrive at Ranchi by 10:50 pm on the same day.
(9) Jamnagar-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express
The Jamnagar-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express train is scheduled to cover a distance of 331 km in a total of 4 hours and 40 minutes. The journey will include five halts at important stations. The train is set to depart from Jamnagar at 5:30 am and is expected to reach Ahmedabad at 10:10 am via Rajkot, Wankaner, Surendranagar, Viramgam, and Sabarmati.
