If you know of an outstanding small business in the region, consider nominating them for the U.S. Small Business Administration 2024 Small Business Week Awards.
The awards recognize the exceptional achievements, contributions and resilience of small businesses that have received SBA assistance and are driving the U.S. economy.
“Small businesses power our nation’s economy and are the realization of the American Dream for millions of entrepreneurs,” SBA Administrator Isabella Guzman said in a news release about the call for nominations.
“From mom-and-pop shops to innovative startups, small businesses create good jobs, provide vital services, and help define the identities of the neighborhoods and communities they serve,” Guzman added.” National Small Business Week is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate their achievements and the essential contributions they make across the country.”
Businesses in the region are encouraged to apply.
“National Small Business Week gives us the opportunity to recognize the exceptional small businesses predominantly located in the New York City and Long Island area,” Marlene Cintron, SBA administrator of Region II, said in the release.
“They are unique, are valued by the communities that they serve and an inspiration for startup entrepreneurs. Small business make New York City thrive, employ our residents, and add another reason for non-New Yorkers to make it their home. We look forward to highlighting them all,” Cintron added.
Information about nominating a business, and more information is available at sba.gov/nsbw. All nominations must be submitted electronically by 4 p.m. on Dec, 7. The awards will be presented during the NSBW Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., from April 28-29, 2024.
National Small Business Week has been celebrated for nearly 60 years, highlighting the contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.
The SBA’s signature award during NSBW is the Small Business Person of the Year. A business owner from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam will be selected for individual state winner awards. These award winners will compete for the title of National Small Business Person of the Year.
Additionally, there are categories for exporters and disaster recovery. The SBA is also calling for nominations for those securing federal procurement awards, including contractors and subcontractors. Other categories include the Small Business Development Center Excellence and Innovation Center Award, Women’s Business Center of Excellence Award and the Veterans Business Outreach Center of the Year, among others.
