UnitedHealth Group Inc. is moving from its headquarters building in Minnetonka to the Optum campus in Eden Prairie next year.
The move from the building at 9900 Bren Road E is expected to happen in the first half of 2024, just over a year after UHG (NYSE:UNH) passed on an option to renew its current HQ lease. The building’s occupants, including C-suite executives, will make the move to 11000 Optum Circle in Eden Prairie.
Optum, which provides a variety of health industry services, is owned by UnitedHealth Group.
“This has been coming,” said Caroline Landree, associate director of external communications with UHG. “I think this is a pretty logical next move.”
Landree said the Optum campus is rich with amenities and space for current needs and potential future growth. There will be no meaningful changes to employee count with the move.
The company is maintaining a flexible policy for employees as to how and where work gets done. It’s leader-dependent, Landree said, and the company encourages in-person collaboration in roles where it makes sense.
UHG is working through the naming for the campus, which will have a UHG side and an Optum side. UnitedHealth’s insurance business, United Healthcare, will remain based at 9700 and 9800 Health Care Lane in Minnetonka.
Since March of last year, UnitedHealth has added three commercial properties near the Minnetonka campus to its portfolio.
This includes the $1.15 million purchase of a one-story property at 6022 Blue Circle Drive in December, a subsidiary purchasing a $2.85 million in March of last year at 6110 Blue Circle Drive for $2.85 million and $3 million spent the same month for a 20,000-square-foot industrial building at 10201 Bren Road E. The company did not comment on its plans for those properties.
