Nana Patekar, who made his return to the screen after a one-year hiatus with Vivek Agnihotri’s The Vaccine War, recently shared a humorous anecdote about his name during a promotional event. In an interview with Aaj Tak, Nana revealed a witty exchange with Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan when the latter became a grandfather.
Nana said, “One day Amitabh Bachchan came to the set and started distributing sweets after becoming a Nana (maternal grandfather). He told me , ‘Mein Nana ban gaeya.’ And I responded by saying, ‘Tumhe kitne saal lage, main toh bachpan se Nana hun (How many years did you take to become a Nana? I am a Nana since childhood).” When asked if he was a serious child growing up, the actor shared that he was just the opposite of being serious.
Nana Patekar and Amitabh Bachchan shared screen space in the 1999 film Kohram.
The Vaccine War, which was released on September 28, struggled at the box office, amassing just around Rs 7 crore nationwide in its first five days. However, Agnihotri, in an interview with DNA, expressed that the film received critical acclaim and was expected to grow in popularity through word of mouth. He acknowledged that it wouldn’t match the extraordinary success of The Kashmir Files, stating that The Vaccine War is a different genre, focusing on the topic of vaccines.
“It will be unrealistic on my part to assume that this will grow like The Kashmir Files because that film had reached the collective conscience of every person from top to the bottom. This is a science film on vaccines. Honestly, there shouldn’t have been a feature film on this. But we made it because we felt this story needed to be told. But this film does not have that politics. It is a very straightforward, positive, beautiful film. This is a different genre,” he said.
The Vaccine War also featured Pallavi Joshi, Raima Sen, Sapthami Gowda, and Anupam Kher in key roles.
