Parmeet Sethi made his debut in the movies with Aditya Chopra’s 1995 film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. In a recent interview, Parmeet said that he was heartbroken after he heard that Armaan Kohli was selected for the part of Kuljeet. The actor shared that he could not sleep for 15 days and was just restless until he gave an audition to Aditya and was selected for the part.
In a chat with Bollywood Hungama, Parmeet reminisced the days of shooting for DDLJ and said that they did not foresee the level of success that the film ultimately achieved. “Everything just fit in the right place,” he said. Parmeet shared that he had heard that Aditya was looking for “someone like Parmeet” for a role so when the actor went and met him, he was quite optimistic about landing the part. A couple of days later, when it was announced that Armaan Kohli was now a part of the film, Parmeet said he was “heartbroken”.
Parmeet Sethi then called Aditya Chopra again and insisted on a screen test and soon after, he landed the part. “Usually, I am not that persistent but for this, I knew this is for me,” he shared. Sharing another anecdote from the making of the film, Parmeet said that Aditya was not very keen on the fight scene during the climax but Shah Rukh Khan insisted on it. “Adi did not want the fight. But Shah Rukh was insistent to some other level, so he gave in,” he recalled.
Parmeet also made his directorial debut with Yash Raj Films with the 2010 film Badmaash Company, starring Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma. The actor shared that was supposed to direct a cross border love story with the production house but the plan got derailed because of the changing political situation. Parmeet has not helmed any films since then. He is now directing miniTV’s Hacks Crime Online.
