Alia Bhatt and her family have often been the target of harsh trolling on social media. Recently, the actor’s husband Ranbir Kapoor was trolled online after a Vogue video of Alia went viral in which she mentioned that Ranbir would ask her to “wipe off” her lipstick because he preferred her natural lip colour. This statement led to intense scrutiny of their relationship, with many criticising Ranbir and labeling him as “toxic.”
During her recent interview with Hindustan Times, Alia spoke on dealing with such trolls and said, “I have lived my life in the public eye. Initially, I was a little defensive and then I was dismissive. But now, I have grown into a person who thinks that I have nothing to complain about. The position I am in, it doesn’t look nice when I say, ‘Oh, I don’t like what people are saying.’ So, even though sometimes, you don’t want to read nasty things about you, your family or your relationship, but I am not going to fight with my audience. Those people who are writing these things are my audience. So, as as long as they are watching my films and I am entertaining them… when I say that I feel grateful for all the love from my audience, these are the moments when I have to show my gratitude and not just when things are hunky-dory.”
Ranbir Kapoor also addressed the controversy and the label of being “toxic” during his recent interaction with fans. He clarified his stance by saying, “Recently, I was reading an article about being toxic and something relating to some statement I made, and I understand. Listen, I am on your side. Whatever you are fighting against this toxic masculinity, I am on the side of people who are fighting for it. So, if they want to use me as a face, I am fine because their fight is bigger than just me feeling bad about them having an opinion on what I said,” Ranbir said. He added that he looks at a larger picture and doesn’t feel bad for himself as he believes he has “lots to feel grateful about”.
On the work front, while Ranbir Kapoor will be next seen on the screen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming film, Animal. Alia is currently shooting for her first action flick, Jigra. The film is directed by Vasan Bala and co-produced by Alia and Karan Johar.
