Oscars’ In Memoriam segment remembered art director and producer Nitin Desaiin the In Memoriam section on Monday morning alongside Tina Turner, Friends star Matthew Perry, composer Bill Lee, actress Chita Rivera, actor Ryan O’Neal, comedian Richard Lewis, actress Glenda Jackson and many more. Desai had died by suicide at the age of 57 last year.
Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo Bocelli sang “Time to Say Good-Bye (Con Te Partirò)” during the 2024 Oscars on Sunday as the Oscars honoured those who passed away last year.
A frequent collaborator of Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Nitin created the sets of a number of memorable films such as Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Bajirao Mastani. He also worked with filmmakers like Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Ashutosh Gowariker. His other credits include Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Dostana, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Munna Bhai MBBS, Mission Kashmir, Josh and Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha. His last film was the 2019 war epic drama Panipat, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.
He was found dead at his studio in Karjat, Maharashtra. Police believed it was prima facie, a case of death by suicide. Reports had suggested that he had defaulted on a loan and had filed for bankruptcy. Desai’s company had said that there was a fire incident at the studio on May 7, 2021 which resulted in loss of property and blamed the creditors for sending a recovery notice on the same day. His creditors were reportedly trying to take possession of ND Studios.

The Supreme Court is hearing SBI’s request for an extension to disclose details of electoral bonds. SBI’s senior advocate stated that they are struggling to gather the information. The court has ordered the details to be disclosed by March 13, and questioned SBI’s actions in the last 26 days. The court had previously deemed the electoral bonds scheme unconstitutional.
