Actor Bobby Deol made some surprising revelations about the climactic action scene in his new film, Animal. The crime epic ends with his character, Abrar, fighting Ranbir Kapoor’s Ranvijay shirtless on an airstrip. In an interview, Bobby admitted that there is a love-hate dynamic between the two characters, which is reflected in certain creative choices that director Sandeep Reddy Vanga made in the movie.
Speaking to The Quint, Bobby also revealed a key moment that Vanga removed from the theatrical cut, but said that it could be included in the eventual Netflix release, which is expected to be even longer than the film’s current 201 minute run time. Recalling how Vanga described Abrar to him, Bobby said, “There are these two brothers, they want to kill each other, but there’s a love that they have for each other. I’m going to shoot the climax sequence with a song playing in the background, which is about love.”

Apparently, Bobby revealed, ‘there was a kiss’ between the two characters as well. “He said, ‘You’re fighting, and you suddenly kiss him, and then you don’t give up, and he kills you’. But he removed the kiss. There was a kiss. I think it might come on the uncut Netflix version. After saying all this, he said, ‘You’re mute’.”
Asked about the undercurrent of love in the climactic scene, which includes a shot of Abrar and Ranvijay lying on top of each other without clothes, Bobby said, “Both their families love each other. We are family. There is love for each other’s brothers. But that moment was also Sandeep’s idea. We were doing the fight sequence, practicising for it, and then he said, ‘You know what Bobby, I want you to punch him and lie on top of him’. It was more about me being powerful. Obviously, the hero always wins in the end. And the shot of me unzipping, it was his idea. He brings that alpha thing to every character.”
While Animal has emerged as one of the biggest hits of the year with over Rs 750 crore worldwide, the film has been criticised by a section of the audience for its portrayal of women, and for seemingly glorifying toxic male behaviour. In the same interview, Bobby said that the film is actually ‘creating awareness’ about the cruelty in the world.
