Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the BRICS Business Forum Leaders’ Dialogue, the first official event of the 3-day summit of the five-member bloc. He addressed the meeting and said, “ Today, India is the fastest-growing major economy in the world. Soon, India will be a 5 trillion dollar economy.”
Joe Biden, the president of the United States, will travel to India from September 7 to 10, according to Jake Sullivan, the national security advisor at the White House. Biden will visit India for a number of bilateral engagements, according to Sullivan, without providing any other information.
Adani Green Energy on Tuesday said BSE and National Stock Exchange have imposed a fine of Rs 2.24 lakh each on the company for certain non-compliance. The fines have been imposed “for non-compliance with the requirements pertaining to the composition of the Board, including failure to appoint a woman director”, the company stated in an exchange filing. Security has been stepped up at the inter-state borders of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh in the wake of a call by 16 farmer bodies to hold a protest to seek compensation for losses caused by floods, a PTI report said. S&P Global on Monday cut credit ratings and revised its outlook for multiple U.S. banks, following a similar move by Moody’s, warning that funding risks and weaker profitability will likely test the sector’s credit strength. S&P downgraded the ratings of Associated Banc-Corp and Valley National Bancorp on funding risks and a higher reliance on brokered deposits. It also downgraded UMB Financial Corp, Comerica Bank and Keycorp, citing large deposit outflows and prevailing higher interest rates. (Reuters)
Former US President Donald Trump plans to surrender on Thursday in Atlanta in connection with his indictment in Georgia on charges he sought to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state, he said on social media on Monday. “I’ll be going to Atlanta, Georgia, on Thursday to be ARRESTED,” Trump, who is running for reelection in 2024, said on his Truth Social platform. Russian air defence systems brought down two combat drones to the west of the Russian capital early on Tuesday, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. The drones were downed over the town of Krasnogorsk and the settlement of Chastsy, he said. A Reuters reporter who was near Chastsy said that she heard four blasts after 3 a.m. (local time).
