"I was looking at Twitter and it said 'Darius Rucker to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame'," Rucker said. "I called my manager and he like, 'Yeah, it's real'."
Rucker also spoke about his career, from singing Al Green songs at a young age to his mother and her friends, to forming the band Hootie & the Blowfish. The band's 1994 debut album, Cracked Rear Window, sold 21 million copies and won two Grammy Awards. Rucker noted he received his first Grammys from Tupac Shakur and Kiss.
Cracked Rear Window will have its 30th anniversary next year. Rucker said Hootie & the Blowfish will be touring in recognition of the anniversary.
"I love playing music live," he said. "There's nothing like it."

Rucker's new album Carolyn's Boy is dedicated to his late mother Carolyn, who died in 1991.
"I think about her every day," Rucker said. "She was so proud of me before we ever made it. If she'd been around to see all that, she would have just been so proud."
Discussing his country music career, Rucker noted that three radio stations told him that their audience would never accept a Black country singer.

"That was scary to me," he said. "This is America and you mean to really tell me that these people aren't going to listen to a great song by a Black person just because they're Black? I just couldn't believe it. And we went in and kicked the door open."
Rucker told Hudson that seeing more Black country music artists is what he currently loves most about the industry.
"I'm really happy to see country music looking more like America," Rucker said.
