CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has arrested the man they say struck and killed a 64-year-old woman in Hollywood and then left the scene.
Tyerel Lamar Brown, 27, is charged with leaving the scene of a collision involving a death, according to court documents.
The crash happened on Jan. 6 on Highway 162 between Storage Road and New Road. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Sandra Jenkins, of Charleston, who died of blunt force injuries.
Deputies spoke with a witness and reviewed video footage showing a black two-door Camaro. The sheriff’s office posted a photo of the vehicle on X, formerly Twitter, asking anyone who recognized it to call in with information.
The next day, deputies found a vehicle matching the description, the arrest warrant states.
“On first inspection of the vehicle, clothing fiber and blood were observed underneath the vehicle,” the document states.
The owner of the vehicle, identified as Brown, told deputies he was the primary driver of the Camaro and that no one else could have access to it, the affidavit states.
An analysis of the blood found under the vehicle found human DNA and an analysis of the fibers matched the clothing Jenkins was wearing when she was struck, the document states.
Brown was arrested Monday afternoon and booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
The jail website states a judge set bond at $150,000 for the charge and Brown has since been released.
