MIAMI – Hollywood police are looking for the person they say hurt a dog.
On Sunday, April 7th, officers with the Hollywood Police Department responded to Sunshine Animal Hospital, in the 9800 block of Pines Blvd., regarding an animal abuse case.
Officers were told that a Stafford Terrier Mix was found on April 5th at around 6:30 a.m. near 6124 Madison Street.
“We had gotten a phone call that there was a dog that was kind of stabbed with a machete or really hurt and injured,” said Cindy Mucciaccio, from I Heart Animal Rescue.
Officials said the dog had a large laceration across its back and appeared to be in distress.
“It did have stitches across its back. I believe the dog needs more treatment,” said Deanna Bettineschi, with the Hollywood Police Department.
“There was already a $4,500 bill at the vet and the dog also had a torn ACL, which I know is very expensive,” said Mucciaccio.
CBS News Miami has learned surgery costs may very well exceed $10,000.
The Brady Hunter Foundation is currently taking on the cost of care for the dog’s treatment and injuries.
“We were deeply sad to hear about the news of this innocent animal, that fell victim of such a cruel, cruel act,” said Paige Breky from the Brady Hunter Foundation.
Mucciaccio added, “I think it’s horrible that someone can abuse a dog, stabbed a dog or shoot a dog; it’s just unfathomable.”
The Hollywood Police Department is requesting the help of the community.
