It can now be reasonably concluded that Rajkumar Hirani’s, Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki has lost in its ultimate box office face-off against Prashanth Neel’s Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire. Despite 2023 being the most successful year of Shah Rukh Khan’s career, highlighted by the remarkable performance of two of his films, Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan and Atlee Kumar’s Jawan, each grossing over Rs 1,000 crore, he couldn’t replicate the same level of success for Dunki.
After earning Rs 29.2 crore in the domestic market on its debut day and Rs 20.50 crore on Friday, Dunki is likely to deliver a similar performance on Saturday, with earnings expected to be in line with those of December 22.
As of 6 pm on December 23, the film has garnered a nett collection of Rs 17.37 crore domestically, bringing its total in India to Rs 63.46 crore, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. The film’s Hindi occupancy has been modest at 29.45 per cent. Although the morning shows on Saturday recorded an occupancy rate of 21.04 per cent, it rose to 37.86 per cent during the afternoon shows.
Nevertheless, the film is likely to witness better business on Sunday. The advance bookings for Dunki on Sunday already look promising, with the film having earned Rs 7.47 crore in pre-sales with over 2.3 lakh tickets sold nationwide.
Meanwhile, Red Chillies Entertainment shared via social media that Dunki has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide. Its gross worldwide collection stands at Rs 103.4 crore.

Dunki’s collections over the first two days in India fall significantly short of the opening day earnings of SRK’s Pathaan and Jawan. While Pathaan debuted with Rs 57 crore nett, Jawan had eked out Rs 75 crore on its opening day. The substantial decline in the performance of Dunki can also be attributed to the release of Salaar, which marked the largest-ever opening for an Indian film this year by generating Rs 95 crore in India.
In her review of the movie, The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta gave Dunki 1.5 out of 5 stars and noted, “In the 161-minute run-time of the Rajkumar Hirani film, I was hard put to find anything that made me feel. Even Shah Rukh Khan’s Hardy comes off as working too hard for not enough pay-off.”
