The details: As entertainment giants continue to merge and Hollywood recovers from two strikes, jobs seem hard to come by. But certain fields, such as legal and analytics, are still hiring.
The background: Hollywood employment has plunged 26% from a post-pandemic high in August 2022, according to a recent Otis College study on L.A.’s entertainment workforce.
While many inside the studios and conglomerates point the finger at last summer’s picket lines, the Otis researchers concluded that the “more enduring threat” came from the years-long “arms race” among streaming services that preceded the strikes and put subs growth over profitability.
The Ankler spoke to executive recruiters, studio execs and writers to get a sense of the hiring landscape in Hollywood and the U.K., and whether video gaming remains appealing to entertainment staffers looking to make a leap.
What’s next: Hollywood’s major studios are likely to be more cautious in hiring over the next 12 to 18 months, says Korn Ferry’s Bill Simon.
