Let’s begin with our top story: Shah Rukh Khan’s role in the movie Chak De India is widely recognized as one of his stellar performances. In a chat with Film Companion, cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee spoke of the complexities of crafting a cinematic experience for the audience. Sudeep spoke about the scene after the Indian team wins the World Cup and an emotional Kabir Khan is standing on the edge of the field. He said: “That moment is actually a very sad moment because all the glory and the victory belongs to the girls and he is the one in the background, very few people will even know about his contribution. For me, that was the truth of the scene.”
Deven Bhojani, featured in the recent Shah Rukh Khan film Dunki, reflected on working with King Khan and mentioned how the experience revived their shared memories from thirty years ago. In a chat with YouTuber Subhojit Ghosh, Deven said that Shah Rukh remembered him from thirty years ago and met him warmly on the set of Dunki. “He met me so warmly now. I was a little hesitant. I was thinking so many years have passed now and he is such a huge star. We spoke about those old days,” Deven shared. He disclosed that while working on Dunki, Shah Rukh Khan started referring to him as ‘sir’ at one juncture, leading to a moment of mild embarrassment for him
Next up: A few days after Ranbir Kapoor outshone his mother Neetu Kapoor in a snack company’s advertisement, Neetu has made a noteworthy comeback, earning praise from Ranbir’s Animal co-star Triptii Dimri. In a previous Lay’s ad, Ranbir was shown snacking under Neetu’s nose without her noticing. In the latest advertisement, Neetu has accomplished the same feat. Triptii shared the ad on her social media and wrote, “Have you also caught your friends red-handed stealing your @lays_india pack? Perfect comeback @neetu54 ji! Scorecard is now even at 1-1, is there more to come? 👀.” Lays India shared it with the caption, “When you love something, you just can’t let it go! #IseyKehteHainPyaar scorecard update RK 1- Neetu 1”
In a recently launched brand campaign, Kiara Advani flawlessly imitated Karan Johar’s distinctive ‘toodles’ style. The advertisement, which also features Karan Johar, captures his mixed emotions of amusement and exasperation as Kiara undergoes a striking transformation while wearing eyeglasses resembling those of the filmmaker. Kiara wielded the famed coffee cup from Karan’s show, Koffee With Karan, while posing probing questions, echoing the criticism Karan has faced for such interviews. Karan looks unimpressed and disinterested in Kiara’s mimicry of him. Towards the end, Karan looks into the camera and says “Tussi Ja Rahe ho?” only to have Kiara complete it as she changes it to, “Tussi Jao.” This is a famous dialogue from Karan’s directorial Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Renowned for murder mysteries, Sriram Raghavan introduced his latest thriller, “Merry Christmas,” a delightful addition to his two-decade film career. Days after the release of the Katrina Kaif-Vijay Sethupathi starrer, the director is in a happy and relaxed state. In a chat with Indianexpress.com, Raghavan said, “Last week was extremely hectic, we were mixing till the end, finished the film and readied it for the release. I’m breathing now,” Merry Christmas hit the screens last Friday, January 12th, marking the director’s return to the cinema halls after his 2018 blockbuster Andhadhun. He added: “Overall, this has been a very favourable response. There are some who have not taken it kindly that it is not Andhadhun!.”
Moving on, Jimmy Shergill made his film debut with Maachis but it was his appearance in Aditya Chopra’s Mohabbatein that made him a household name. In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Jimmy spoke about wanting to play different characters then. He said: “after working a lot for the first two years, I returned the signing amount to a lot of people. Because this chocolate boy thing was a little too much at the time. Everybody would say ‘why? This is amazing’ and I would say ‘no, there is something inside me telling me that this won’t last for more than 2-3 years’.”
Rohit Shetty is taking the cinematic spectacle of extensive action to streaming platforms through his upcoming series “Indian Police Force,” where Shilpa Shetty plays a significant role. In a chat with Instant Bollywood, when Shilpa was asked about the one thing she loved and tolerated about Rohit, she laughed and declared “this is panga (problem.)” Talking about the thing that she loved about Rohit, Shilpa said, “One thing I love about Rohit Shetty is that he presents his actors so amazingly, so much swag. I love that about him. What I hate about Rohit Shetty? He’s a diva, I call him a diva.” When asked why, she shared, “Between him and me, he is a bigger diva than me.”
Lastly: Ad guru Prahlad Kakkar has worked with celebrities of all kinds throughout the course of his career. Prahlad recalled that Govinda once assured him that he’d make it in time for a shoot even though he was thousands of miles away. In a chat with Cyrus Broacha, Prahlad shared, “Govinda came 24 hours late to the set…we were on a big set in Hyderabad, of all the places. And he was supposed to come from Srinagar. He said, ‘Don’t worry, main time pe aa jaunga (I’ll be there on time)’. I said, ‘Kaise ayega tu? Tera flight nahi hai (How? You don’t even have a flight)’. He said, ‘Gaadi mein baith ke aunga na (I’ll come in a car)’.
