In our top story. The action-packed futuristic thriller Ganapath was released on October 20th, opening to a disappointing Rs 2.5 crore at the box office. Despite the festive period, the Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon-starrer’s commercial performance has fallen short of even low expectations. Over the weekend, the film collected Rs 2.25 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, bringing its total collection to Rs 4.75 crore. Ganapath – A Hero Is Born had an overall 10.19 per cent occupancy in the Hindi-speaking market. The film also marks Tiger’s lowest opener at the box office. In the Vikas Bahl directorial, Tiger’s character Guddu transforms into the titular mercenary, who takes on a dangerous crime syndicate.
Moving on. Filmmaker Rohit Shetty announced the release date of his highly anticipated cop-drama series, Indian Police Force on October 21st. Sharing a poster of the show, featuring the lead actors, Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi, Shetty took to Instagram and wrote how he is expecting his fans to shower love on his next big screen outing Singham Again. But before that, he will present them with his “new officers”. The seven-part high-octane action series will drop on Prime Video on January 19, 2024. Talking about his digital debut project, Rohit Shetty said in a statement to indianexpress.com – “I am delighted to collaborate with Prime Video for my first digital venture.”
Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has announced his next project, titled Parva: An Epic Tale of Dharma, an adaptation of SL Bhyrappa’s Kannada novel of the same name. Envisioned as a three-part franchise, Agnihotri made the official announcement of the film during an event held in Bengaluru. The franchise will be bankrolled by his wife, actor-producer Pallavi Joshi. Taking to X, Agnihotri shared an animation poster of the project, along with a post asking, “Is Mahabharat history or mythology?” Parva is Agnihotri’s latest venture following his bio-science film The Vaccine War, which flopped miserably at the box office. The film managed to gross only Rs 14.65 crore globally, of which Rs 12.15 crore was collected domestically.
Meanwhile, actor Anil Kapoor surprised everyone on October 21st, when he shared a new advertisement, in which he reprised his iconic role as Mr India. In the ad, Anil Kapoor’s character Arun’s young aide Jugal enters a haunted mansion. As he is about to drop an ornate vase, the invisible Mr India arrives on the scene and catches it before it falls to the ground. As the film’s theme plays in the background, Anil appears on screen and the two try to find a ‘secret gadget’, a Google Pixel 8 smartphone. The actor took to his Instagram to share the video, and wrote, “The beauty of time, is that it never stands still.” Mr India was released in 1987.
On the occasion of actor Parineeti Chopra’s 35th birthday on October 22nd, her husband, politician Raghav Chadha shared some unseen photos and wrote a warm note for her. The caption of the post read – “You light up my life like a superstar, Paru! Just a smile from you can make my challenging and chaotic life bearable. On this special day, I want to celebrate the amazing woman that you are.” In one of the photos, Parineeti can be seen holding the ‘Reserved’ tag as she flaunts her engagement ring, while other pictures seem to be from various occasions when the couple spent some quality time together. Parineeti Chopra and Raghav Chadha got married on September 24th.
Meanwhile, actor Sharman Joshi recently shared his experience of working on the 2006 blockbuster, Rang De Basanti with Aamir Khan, describing him as a lovely person. On the podcast Timeout With Ankit, when asked about his experience of working with Aamir, who is often addressed as ‘Mr perfectionist’, Sharman said that he did not see the ‘serious’ side of Aamir, even after working with him in two films. They also shared the screen in Rajkumar Hirani’s 2009 cult hit, 3 Idiots. Sharman shared – ” Aamir is pretty instinctive himself. He goes with the flow. He’s a lovely guy. I admire him for the work that he has done over the years.”
In a recent interview, filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj discussed his ability to gauge a project’s success during its creation. However, he admitted that his prediction went awry with his 2009 film Kaminey due to conflicts on the set. During his interview on the YouTube channel Unfiltered by Samdish, Vishal shared – “It was chaos on some other level. Every day after reaching the set for an hour and a half, I had to see what was the new problem of the day.” Kaminey, written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, featured Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Amole Gupte in the lead roles. Set against the backdrop of the Mumbai underworld, the film explores the rivalry between twin brothers.
Lastly, Actor Dalip Tahil has been sentenced to two months in jail in a five-year-old drink-driving case. In 2018, he had rammed his car into an autorickshaw, injuring a woman. According to reports, the 70-year-old actor was sentenced by a magistrate’s court following evidence from a medical expert, who said that the veteran was in an inebriated state when the accident happened. According to Times Now, the evaluation by the doctor said that the smell of alcohol was detected on him, and noted that he had an “unsteady gait, dilated pupils, and incoherent speech”. Speaking to ANI, Dalip Tahil said he respects the decision but will challenge the verdict in the higher court.
