In our top story. Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail has earned Rs 50.68 crore in nett box office collections, the makers said on Wednesday, 29th November. Starring Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar, the film was released in theatres on October 27 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.12th Fail is based on Anurag Pathak’s bestselling novel about the journey of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and IRS officer Shraddha Joshi. In a statement to PTI, the makers said – “In a remarkable feat, the Vidhu Vinod Chopra directorial 12th Fail has crossed the 50 crores nett mark, signalling a resounding success for content-driven cinema.” The film also stars Anant V Joshi, Anshumaan Pushkar, Sanjay Bishnoi and Priyanshu Chatterjee.
Moving on. Spotify has revealed its rundown of the most-streamed artists, songs and albums in India for the year 2023. For the third consecutive year, Arijit Singh claimed the top spot as the most-streamed artist, while King and Saurabh Lokhande’s “Maan Meri Jaan” emerged as the most-streamed song in India. Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh secured the title of the most-streamed album of 2023. Alongside Arijit, artists like Pritam, Anirudh Ravichander, AR Rahman, Shreya Ghoshal and Vishal-Shekhar were among the most searched artists in India. Among the other highly streamed songs on Spotify this year were “Kesariya” from the film Brahmastra, Heeriye” by Arijit Singh and Jasleen Royal and “Chaleya” from the film Jawan.
Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal is all set to release in theatres on Friday, 1st December and the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial has already received its ‘A – Adults only’ certificate. The film has reportedly received a few modifications from the Central Board of Film Certification. The modifications include changing the “intimate visuals” between characters named Vijay and Zoya, modifying cuss words and modifying the word “Black”, as per the photo of the certificate that was shared online. Animal has a runtime of 203 minutes. The other changes mentioned suggest that the word ‘vastra’ has been replaced with ‘costume’. Animal also stars Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, among others. The film is releasing alongside Vicky Kaushal-starrer Sam Bahadur.
Meanwhile, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who is gearing up for the release of his new film Animal, looked back on the difficult process of remaking Arjun Reddy in Hindi as Kabir Singh. He revealed that not everybody was in favour of casting Shahid Kapoor in the lead role. In an interview with iDream Media, the director shared – “First, it was pitched to Ranveer Singh. But finally, he decided he would not do it because it was too dark for him at that time.” After Ranveer passed, Shahid was approached. Sandeep added – ” They used to say – ‘Why are you doing it with this guy? But I was always sure about Shahid, he’s a fantastic actor.”
Actors Randeep Hooda and Lin Laishram tied the knot in a traditional Meitei wedding in Imphal, Manipur on Wednesday, 29th November. Videos of Randeep’s procession with the band and baraatis surfaced on social media platforms, capturing the celebrations. Visuals from Chumthang Shannapung resort in Imphal where the wedding rituals took place also surfaced on X. In the video, Randeep is seen doing puja at the ceremony. Bride Lin looked resplendent in a traditional attire as she arrived at the venue. She was accompanied by her family members. In another video, Lin is seen performing traditional rituals as she smiles at Randeep. The couple’s friends and family members are also seen congratulating them at the ceremony.
Meanwhile, when Shah Rukh Khan played a supporting role in Alia Bhatt-starrer Dear Zindagi, fans took note as a star of his league is hardly seen in supporting roles. In a recent interview, director Gauri Shinde said that SRK was the first person she went to and he immediately said yes. In Dear Zindagi, Shah Rukh played Jehangir Khan, who is a therapist for Alia’s character. In a chat with Film Companion, Gauri shared that they discussed what kind of therapist she wanted him to play. She recalled – “Light, humourous, kind of what Shah Rukh is in real life. I can’t think of anyone else who could have played Jehangir. When he says words, you want to listen.”
In the latest episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8 featuring Rani Mukerji and Kajol as guests, Karan Johar shared details about Aditya Chopra and Rani’s secret wedding in 2014. Karan shed light on how the intimate ceremony was kept under wraps, with only 18 guests invited to the destination wedding. Speaking on the show, Karan said – “When Rani and Adi got married, it was a destination wedding. He told me, ‘If word gets out about this wedding, the only person who will open his mouth is you.”‘ The filmmaker also revealed that he didn’t talk about the wedding to his mother, Hiroo Johar. He said, “I had to lie to my mother.”
Lastly, veteran actor Shabana Azmi has grown up witnessing the golden era of Hindi cinema as her father Kaifi Azmi was a noted lyricist in films at the time. In a recent interview with Film Companion, Shabana talked about the making of Guru Dutt’s Kagaz Ke Phool song “Waqt Ne Kiya Kya Haseen Sitam”, composed by SD Burman and penned by Kaifi Azmi. She shared – “Abba said that they had written the song on their own. They had just written the mukhada. Guru Dutt ji fell in love with the song. So they said, ‘There is no situation in the film for this.’ He said, ‘You can make the whole song, and I will create the situation.”
