Tiger Shroff’s latest actioner Ganapath is having a tough time attracting the audience to the cinema halls despite a 5-day Dusshera weekend. The film barely got any footfall over the weekend, and it got worse on its first Monday.
On Monday, Ganapath could only add Rs 1.30 crore (early estimates) to its earnings, failing to hit a double-digit figure even after four-day run in the theatres, reported industry tracker Sacnilk. This brings the total collection of the film to Rs 8.30 crore. The film got 10.62% Hindi occupancy, with night shows selling the maximum number of tickets.
The chance of the Vikas Bahl directorial picking up pace even on Tuesday, which happens to be a Dusshera holiday in some parts of the country, looks bleak. Ganapath is performing worse than Tiger’s previous silver screen outing, Heropanti 2 which released in 2022. By the end of its opening weekend, Heropanti 2 could amass Rs 16 cr, double of what Ganapath earned in four days.
Also starring Kriti Sanon, Amitabh Bachchan, Ziad Bakri, Girish Kulkarni, and Jameel Khan, Ganapath is set in 2070 AD. Before the film’s release, makers described the film as a “futuristic action thriller” which sees a fighter’s rise as he “embarks on a quest to discover his destiny in an uncharted realm.”
The Indian Express’ film critic Shubhra Gupta dismissed Ganapath as a “terrible” film. In her review, she mentioned, “What comes as a surprise is just how terrible this film is, with practically no redeeming feature in its nearly two-and-a-half-hour run-time. The Fighting-Dancing Tiger, chest gleaming and bronzed, working hard both in the ring and the dance floor, can’t do a thing to stop our eyes from glazing over from this relentless rinse-and-repeat.”
With Ganapath’s failure to attract the audience, it becomes crucial for Shroff’s upcoming films — Bade Miyan Chote Miyan with Akshay Kumar and Singham Again directed by Rohit Shetty to perform well at the box office.
