Eddie Murphy Reportedly in Talks to Play George Clinton in Biopic
Hailed as one of the architects of funk music, Clinton launched his remarkable career in music in Plainfield, NJ as a co-founder of the Parliaments, a doo-wop group in the late-1950s. Eventually, the group would evolve into the psychedelic, Afrofuturistic funk collective Parliament-Funkadelic.
During the group’s heyday in the 70s, they released critically acclaimed albums such as Maggot Brain (1971), Mothership Connection (1975), and One Nation Under a Groove (1978) to critical praise, and several classic hits with singles including “Mothership Connection,” “Tear the Roof Off the Sucker,” and “Flash Light.”
As one of the key architects of funk music, Clinton, along with William “Bootsy” Collins, and Bernie Worrell, created timeless music that has been sampled by the likes of Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, De La Soul, Too $hort, EPMD, and many others.
Clinton and his bandmates were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.
In April 2022, it was announced that comedy icon Eddie Murphy will star in and serve as a producer of a biopic centered on Clintion’s life.
The ceremony will take place on Jan.19 at 12:30 p.m. EST on Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Musicians Institute and will be livestreamed at walkoffame.com.
