Girl Scouts of Hawaii has appointed Kanoe Nāone as its new CEO, the nonprofit organization announced Tuesday. Nāone will assume the role beginning Jan. 8, 2024.
According to the announcement, Nāone has more than 20 years of experience in leading nonprofit and educational organizations. From 2007 to 2017, she was the CEO of the Institute for Native Pacific Education and Culture, or INPEACE, which aims to improve the quality of life for Native Hawaiians. From 2017 to 2022, she was the CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley in Southern California.
Nāone holds three degrees from the from the University of Hawaii at Manoa: an M.A. and B.A. in Political Science, and a Doctor of Philosophy.
“With her deep roots in Hawaii, extensive nonprofit experience, and a passion for our keiki, Kanoe is the perfect fit to lead the Girl Scouts into its next phase,” said Lori Teranishi, chair of the Board of the Girl Scouts of Hawaii, in a statement. “Under her leadership, I am confident we will have an even greater impact inspiring and engaging our next generation of girls in the areas of STEM, community-building, and other development experiences.”
According to the announcement, Girl Scouts of Hawaii supports 5,000 members statewide.
Former CEO Shari Chang resigned in June after nine years in the role, as Pacific Business News previously reported.
Nāone said she is “excited” to join the organization.
“I can’t wait to get to know the staff, troop leaders, girls, and many volunteers who make the Girl Scouts of Hawaii exceptional,” she stated.
