One of the most beloved Bollywood movies of recent times, Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met is still the most discussed film in the respective careers of its lead actors Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan. While his character Aditya still earns Shahid a lot of affection, Kareen’s Geet is often ranked among the best of her career.
Earlier this year, during an interview with Hindustan Times, Kareena had even likened the film to a comforting dish of ghar ki khichdi for many fans, underlining the profound emotional connection it fosters.
Amid persistent speculations about a potential sequel to the film, director Imtiaz Ali recently addressed the topic. In a conversation with News18, Ali definitively stated, “No, it’s not happening,” disappointing countless fans.
“I don’t have a story for Jab We Met 2 yet. I’ve heard of these and read these reports and articles. Nobody asked me before publishing them, so I don’t know what to say. But let’s see what happens,” the filmmaker added.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan in March this year, actor Shahid Kapoor had opened up about the possibilities of a sequel. “It really depends on the quality of that script. So if there is a script that demands a sequel and I feel it is the kind of script that you read and say ‘man this will be better than the original this can match up to the original’ I would do it but if I feel it’s not and I’m just trying to use the brand value of the original thing to do then I feel that that ‘why are you doing it, don’t do it’,” he pointed out.
Imtiaz Ali is currently working on the Netflix film Chamkila, based on the life of singer and musician Amar Singh Chamkila. The film stars Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles.
