Jimmy Kimmel brought union workers on stage to thank them for not crossing picket lines during last year’s strikes.
Hollywood actors and writers were on strike for months last year, disrupting premieres of blockbusters like Barbie and Oppenheimer and shutting down productions throughout the US before their unions signed contracts in September and November. But writers and performers walking picket lines also put trade union members, like stagehands, lighting specialists and makeup artists, out of work.
On Sunday evening, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences brought those workers into the limelight at the Oscars ceremony to thank them.
