Celebrity fitness trainer Kris Gethin, who has worked with Hrithik Roshan for over a decade, spoke about the hard work that goes into cultivating the sort of physique that inspires admiration and envy among the masses. In an interview, he said that Hrithik has certain genetic gifts, but it is primarily his discipline and dedication that gets him looking like he does. Hrithik is often described as a ‘Greek god’, and recently underwent a new round of intense training to prepare for his starring role in the film Fighter.
In an interview with India Today, Gethin spoke about Hrithik’s training schedule for Fighter, and said that the actor wakes up at 5 am, and it’s lights out by 9 pm. “I like to work with people who are genuinely nice and authentic, and he’s definitely one of those people. He’s very intuitive, very high IQ. He knows what works for him, what doesn’t work for him. For Fighter, his day would usually start at 5 or 6 am… By 6 he’s eating his breakfast, and then we’re hitting the gym probably 45 minutes after that.”

He continued, “The workouts don’t take longer than an hour. It’s very short and intense, but very, very difficult. If you can train more than an hour, you’re not training hard enough. It’s usually five days a week of weight training, depending on the sleep schedule. If the sleep is good, five days, if the sleep isn’t good, it would be four days, because recovery enhances the performance… He’ll do cardio once a day, sometimes twice a day, depending on how far we are in the process of what he’s got to look like. Cardio could be anything from running, StairMaster, elliptical, swimming… And it’s lights out by 9. In bed, no later than that.”
Opening up about Hrithik’s diet, Gethin said that the star would probably have around six to seven meals a day. “If he can’t eat them, he’s drinking them in the form of a shake. But it’s usually whole foods.” Gethin described Hrithik’s diet during Fighter as ‘boring’, but praised his personal chef for spicing things up. “It’s a very body-building-esque diet, kind of boring and bland. But luckily, his chef Shubham is very, very good at spicing things up. He would make an egg white burger, where the burger would be chicken breast, but the bun was made out of fluffy egg whites. How he does it, I have no idea. He would add an Indianised taste to it as well, but a lot of it was single-form ingredients like chicken, egg whites, whey protein, fish, along with oats and quinoa, or rice and sweet potato…”
Gethin said that a lot of his clients approach him with the goal of looking like Hrithik. “But you can’t compare yourself to Hrithik. He’s got very full muscle bellies, tiny joints. He’s got good genetics. Not everybody is going to have his shape abs, or his shape pecs. You’ve just got to be the better version of yourself. Just like we don’t have the same personalities or characteristics, you don’t have to emulate someone’s physique,” he said.
