The first teaser trailer for Netflix‘s Hit Man is here and it gives a sense of star Glen Powell‘s charisma in the buzzy film festival breakout.
The film was directed by Richard Linklater and co-written by Linklater and Powell. The actor’s career has been the assent after his scene-stealing role as a fighter pilot in Top Gun: Maverick.
The film synopsis reads: “Inspired by an unbelievable true story, a strait-laced professor discovers his hidden talent as a fake hit man. He meets his match in a client who steals his heart and ignites a powder keg of deception, delight, and mixed-up identities.”
The film also stars Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, Retta, Sanjay Rao, Molly Bernard and Evan Holtzman.
Netflix is giving the film a limited theatrical release on June 7 and also debuting on the streaming service the same date.
Hit Man gained attention at the Venice Film Festival in September and is based on a “somewhat true story” — as the opening titles describe — chronicled in a Texas Monthly article in 2001.
The film currently has a 96 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes from its festival screenings, with The Hollywood Reporter writing, “Given the chemistry between the two leads that could restart a dormant nuclear power plant, viewers are likely to come away sated with pleasure after seeing this delightful work.”
