Dunki marked Shah Rukh Khan’s first collaboration with director Rajkumar Hirani, and for the other actors working on the film, this was the opportunity of a lifetime. Actor Vikram Kochhar, who played a key role in the comedy drama, recently shared in an interview that nerves got the best of another supporting actor, who was replaced on the first day itself.
When asked about his first day on the set of Dunki, Vikram told Home Bollywud that SRK wasn’t in any of the scenes that day, but he recalled another incident. Vikram said that another actor from Punjab was with them on set, but there was some miscommunication between him and Hirani. “What he had done in his audition, he wasn’t able to translate on set. We were all a little nervous. You are affected when you are working with someone big. So, just the thought that you are in the first shot of a Rajkumar Hirani film, which is being made after so many years, so you are bound to get nervous. It’s a big responsibility that you have. Taapsee was also there that day,” he said.
Vikram said that Hirani was trying to explain what he wanted to the actor, and even though the actor kept insisting that he had understood the director, he repeated the same mistakes take after take. “He was quite nervous, so he couldn’t crack it. Raju sir was also getting nervous because it was his first day as well. He apologised to that actor and said that he will cast him in another role. And he decided to cast another actor in that role,” he recalled.

Since Hirani had to replace the actor on the set, his team immediately summoned Rohitashv Gour, with whom Hirani has had a long working relationship. Gaur, who plays one of the lead roles in the TV show Bhabhiji Ghar par Hain, was at home that day, and since he lived close to the set, he came in and did the scene at once. “When he called cut for the first time, we were wondering whose fault is it now? Who will get fired? Because he can do that. He is capable of doing it. When you have to present your film to millions of people, you will be selective about your film,” Vikram said.
Dunki is currently in theatres, and as per the producers Red Chillies Entertainment, the film has made over Rs 300 crore worldwide.
