For filmmaker Rohit Shetty, it is family first. The director behind some of the biggest action and comedy films has revealed that the chartbuster track “Lungi Dance” from Shah Rukh Khan‘s Chennai Express was a last-minute addition.
Rohit Shetty said the Yo Yo Honey Singh composed track was approved by him after the superstar made him listen, although with one crucial lyric change.

In an interview with ANI, the filmmaker said Lungi Dance happed at the “last moment” and was not initially there in the film. “Honey and Shah Rukh met and Shah Rukh called me to ask if I can hear a song. I heard it and it was superb! The only thing I had requested Honey back then, because of my audience, was to change the line ‘Coconut mein Vodka mila ke’, I didn’t want that.”
The filmmaker said Honey Singh heard him and came back with an updated version. “So he changed it to ‘Coconut mein lassi mila ke’ and said, ‘Main isse zyada shareef nahi ho sakta aapke liye!‘”
Rohit recalled that the changes “worked” as the song soon emerged a favourite among kids– a section he knew would enjoy the Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer. “Even Shah Rukh has that family audience. All his films are loved by families. I am particular that my films should be enjoyed by families. So even in my OTT show, there is no nudity, sex scenes. There are two abuses, that also said by the cops.”
He has made his streaming debut with the Prim Video series Indian Police Force, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi.
