After a strong opening at the box office, Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan’s supernatural thriller Shaitaan faced a significant drop in collections on Monday. This downward trend persisted as the film garnered only Rs 6.75 crore on Tuesday, as reported by Sacnilk. Shaitaan’s total domestic earnings currently stand at Rs 68 crore, while its global collection has reached Rs 88 crore.
On Tuesday, the film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 13.38 percent. After a strong debut of Rs 14.75 crore on its opening day, “Shaitaan” shone over the weekend, raking in Rs 18.75 crore and Rs 20.5 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. However, business took a dive on Monday with earnings totaling Rs 7.25 crore, and the downward trend continued into Tuesday.
Although Shaitaan currently enjoys a monopoly at the box office, its dominance will be challenged starting March 15 when it faces tough competition from Sidharth Malhotra and Disha Patani’s starrer, Yodha.
Featuring Ajay Devgn, Jyotika, and R Madhavan in pivotal roles, Shaitaan is a remake of the 2023 Gujarati film Vash, jointly produced by Devgn Films, Jio Studios, and Panorama Studios. The music is composed by Amit Trivedi, with Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti serving as the cinematographer and Sandeep Francis as the editor.
In her review of the movie, The Indian Express’ Shubhra Gupta wrote, “The trouble with this remake of Gujarati film ‘Vash’ is that all the ‘kaala-jaadu’ trickery is ultimately strictly window-dressing to a hero vs villain story. After whetting our appetites with a few well-staged command and control sequences in which Bodiwala, who reprises her role from ‘Vash’, holds our attention, Devgn takes over. Which makes it predictable, because how can a hero, even if he has allowed himself to be bashed up and bloodied till then, can not win?”
