The East Downtown area’s iconic Warehouse Live music venue plans to shutter its current location to make way for its move to a new space in Midtown.
Warehouse Live will take over the space currently occupied by Rise Rooftop at 2600 Travis St., the company said Nov. 20. Houston-based Big City Entertainment Inc., which operates Warehouse Live, did not use a broker to secure the new space, a spokesperson said.
The last show at Warehouse Live’s existing location at 813 St. Emanuel St. will be Dec. 3. Meanwhile, Rise Rooftop will close its doors after its Dec. 17 final show.
Big City Entertainment said the move is part of an effort to elevate the Warehouse Live experience.
The space at 2600 Travis will undergo an extensive renovation and upgrade. When the build-out is complete, the plan is to reopen and rebrand the former Rise Rooftop space as Warehouse Live Midtown on Dec. 29. Andres Vanegas with AV Design Studio is the architect tasked with the remodel.
The first performer to take over the renovated space will be Sullivan King, who is known for blending electronic dance music with heavy metal guitar riffs.
The venue’s grand opening celebration is planned for Dec. 31 and will showcase electronic music group Cash Cash.
Warehouse Live was established in 2006 and quickly established a presence in Houston’s live music scene.
During its run on St. Emanuel Street, the venue has played host to such artists as Prince, Panic At The Disco, Drake, Adele, Chris Stapleton, Gary Clark Jr., John Legend, Pink, Deftones, Duran Duran, SZA and many others.
Meanwhile, Rise Rooftop opened in December 2021 and has carved out its own niche, bringing in artists like Snoop Dogg, Kane Brown, Gryffin and Ne-Yo.
Big City Entertainment said the move will help solidify Warehouse Live Midtown as a premier independently owned live music venue.
The new space offers a multiuse concept, combining design aesthetics and an immersive audio-visual experience.
The 15,000 square feet of indoor-outdoor space includes a retractable roof that either provides shelter from the elements or unique views of the city.
When Warehouse Live Midtown opens, visitors can expect year-round entertainment and such experiences as lounges, VIP sections, balcony seating and private bars.
