Superstar Salman Khan says it’s time to look at new benchmarks, as past laurels are now a passe. Salman, known for smashing box office records for over a decade, says the coveted Rs 100 crore club is now redundant.
The superstar was speaking at the trailer launch of the Punjabi film Maujaan Hi Maujaan, starring Gippy Grewal in the lead role. At the event, when noted how Punjabi movies are doing exceptional business, Salman said films are creating newer landmarks with time.
Salman Khan said the way movies across industries are minting moolah, the new normal for business in the North is Rs 500 crore. “I feel this Rs 100 crore mark is going to be the rock bottom now. Everything is going to be Rs 400-500-600 crore plus now for the Punjabi industry, Hindi industry, every industry.
“Even Marathi films are doing those numbers right now. Basically, people are going to the theatres once again,” the superstar added.
Gippy Grewal’s last film Carry on Jatta 3 had smashed all existing records in the Punjabi film industry and grossed over Rs 100 crore worldwide.
Talking about Maujaan Hi Maujaan, Gippy said he’s hoping the film will earn big at the box office as well, now that Salman is also predicting the business of the movie will be good. He said, “When our films used to do business of Rs 10-15 crore, we would be surprised! Last time when asked if our film can do Rs 100 crore, we didn’t know what to say. But by God’s grace, everything went well. If Salman sir is saying then something huge will happen.”
To which, Salman quipped, “Mere pe mat jana bhai, picture pe jana, kyuki mere khud ke predictions meri films pe nahi chal rahe.”
This year, Salman Khan returned to the big screen with his comedy actioner Kisika Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. The Eid release was a major box office dud and ended its lifetime run at a little over Rs 100 crore.
Produced by Amardeep Grewal and directed by Smeep Kang, Maujaan Hi Maujaan also stars Binnu Dhillon, Karamjit Anmol among others. The quirky family entertainer will release theatrically on October 20.
Salman will soon arrive at the box office with his much-awaited Tiger 3, which is scheduled for a Diwali release. The film stars Katrina Kaif, Emraan Hashmi and features Shah Rukh Khan in a special appearance as Pathaan.
