Come Diwali and superstar Salman Khan will aim to set some records at the box office. The actor’s much awaited actioner Tiger 3 opened its full-fledged advance booking, and the reports are encouraging for a Sunday Diwali day release.
The third instalment of the action franchise, which also stars Katrina Kaif, has opted out for an unconventional release day on Laxmi Pooja — considered generally dull despite a national holiday as shows witness little occupancy from evening owing to festivities.
Despite this, Tiger 3 has taken a smashing start at the first day advance booking. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Yash Raj Films spectacle sold 1,42,030 tickets in total across all platforms and languages in the first 24 hours of full-fledged advance booking going live.
The ticket sales indicate a record-breaking Laxmi Pooja day collection, which is currently held by Hrithik Roshan starrer Krrish 3, which netted Rs 15 cr (on its day three) on the same day according to Pinkvilla. Tiger 3 will beat the record by a margin and set new benchmark with its Diwali opening.
The film that holds the record for opening on Laxmi puja day is actually Shah Rukh Khan’s ambitious 2011 superhero film Ra.One, which netted Rs 14.75 cr.
The day one advance sales for the first 24 hours at national chains–PVR, Inox, Cinepolis– stood at nearly 60,000 tickets being sold for Tiger 3. In isolation–and with the added context of Diwali day– the numbers are fantastic and set the film for a thunderous start at the box office. However, when compared to other blockbusters of the years, especially Jawan and Pathaan, Tiger 3 is trailing so far.
Shah Rukh’s Pathaan, which is part of the same spy universe of YRF, had sold 1,17,000 tickets in the first 24 hours at national chains. The Siddharth Anand directorial, co-starring Deepika Padukone, was a normal Wednesday release, with the national holiday of January 26 being its second day.
Shah Rukh’s second release of the year, Jawan, was better than even Pathaan as it sold 1,38,00 tickets for day one in the first 24 hours at national chains. Directed by Atlee, Jawan was a Thursday release, which saw the partial holiday of Janmashtami. In totality for the first day opening, Pathaan had sold 10,81,091 tickets across India while Jawan stands tall at 15,78,934 ticket sales across all platforms.

In national chains, the top spot for 2023 is taken by Jawan, which sold 5,57,000 tickets for day one, followed by Pathaan, which was at 5,56,000. Tiger 3 is now in the range of 60,000 ticket sales in national chains and will aim to reach top three by the end of its final run. The third spot at national chains day one advance booking for this year is currently held by Adipurush, at 2,85,000 tickets sold.
Also starring Emraan Hashmi, Tiger 3 is directed by Maneesh Sharma, who had previously helmed films like Fan and Band Baaja Baaraat. Tiger 3 will see special appearance by Shah Rukh as Pathaan as well as Hrithik Roshan, who will feature as the spy Kabir from War.
